On National Energy Efficiency Day, ComEd reports customers’ energy savings

CHICAGO Oct. 7, 2020 – (HINA) On National Energy Efficiency Day today, ComEd announced that customers have saved more than $5 billion on their energy bills as a result of the company’s energy efficiency program, the equivalent of removing 5.2 million cars off the road, reducing over 53 billion pounds of carbon dioxide emitted into the air and powering 5.2 million homes for a year.

The ComEd Energy Efficiency Program, launched in 2008, is one of the largest programs in the nation offering residential, business and public sector customers a variety of options that can help them cut back on their energy usage, which saves money and helps the environment.

“The average monthly household bill is lower than it was a decade ago,” said ComEd CEO, Joe Dominguez. “Thanks to the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program, the average customer has saved about $1,250 by participating in the offerings – that’s enough to cover the cost of an average residential energy bill for 15 months. We want customers to know there are options available to help them reduce their energy use and save money, especially as people spend more time at home.”

The ComEd Energy Efficiency Program has more than 35 different offerings to save money and energy. Residential offerings include:

  • Home Energy Assessments – Customers can schedule a free in-home or virtual energy assessment. Homeowners will receive free installation of energy-saving products, including select ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs, programmable thermostats, showerheads and more as well as personalized savings recommendations.
  • Rebates – ComEd offers rebates of up to $75 on qualifying smart thermostats. Connected to a customer’s Wi-Fi, a smart thermostat monitors and controls a home’s temperature from any web-enabled device. ComEd also offers a variety of rebates on select ENERGY STAR certified appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, electric clothes dryers and more.
  • Lighting Discounts – Customers can use instant in-store discounts on select ENERGY STAR certified LEDs and LED fixtures. Look for the «Lower Price» sticker to save. LEDs use about 75 percent less energy and last at least 15 times longer than traditional incandescent light bulbs.

Business offerings include:

  • Facility Assessments – Businesses can sign up for a free facility assessment to have a ComEd energy engineer work with their facility, in-person or virtually, to identify energy efficient opportunities and provide a report with recommended projects, estimated energy and cost savings, and potential incentives.
  • Lighting Incentives – Save on energy-saving LEDs, including fixture replacements and retrofits, networked lighting sensors and controls. Eligible products are also available from lighting distributors throughout the ComEd service territory.
  • HVAC Incentives – Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) can account for about 30 percent of a building’s annual energy usage. Commercial customers can cost-effectively improve their HVAC systems and save money on energy bills with incentives for HVAC system component upgrades, such as water and air-cooled chillers, air-side economizers and demand-controlled ventilation.
